How we Make Crystalla

The Basics

Each Crystalla product is handcrafted using only the finest materials, beginning with a perfect sheet of tempered glass that will withstand everyday use for generations. Tempered glass, often referred to as safety glass, is five times stronger than regular annealed glass. Once we etch (chemical-free) the design on the underside of the glass, it comes to rest upon a handcrafted base of architectural aluminum that will never rust. All of our product lines offer customizable designs to match your personal style. Our bases come in two durable powder coated finishes. Our hand rubbed natural finish is sealed with our very own, VOC-free beeswax formula. Custom colors and designs are always welcome; and because we manufacture every component ourselves, infinite possibilities await.

Historical Context

At Crystalla, we have a combined experience of over five decades in architecture, engineering, interior design, art history, and visual art. As such, we are able to offer a unique product that is not only beautiful, but is connected to thousands of years of glass-design history.

Glass is timeless, with artifacts being discovered from early Mesopotamia from about 3500BCE and from Egypt’s late Bronze Age. Likely an accidentally discovered material, from sand being super-heated during metal pouring processes, glass has shaped our world in innovative ways.

Innovative Technology

We enjoy bringing art history into the contemporary conversation about our designs, but our process is also on the cutting edge of designer surface treatments. We use a unique combination of the latest Computer Aided Design (CAD) software programs, advanced Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery, and the hands of expert artisans. This process produces stunning, functional works of art that are both contemporary and timeless.

Progressive Art Practices

At Crystalla Glass, we have improved on generations of art and design practices and have carefully considered the materials that we work with. Our production process is non-toxic and environmentally friendly and all of our materials are recyclable, lightweight but strong, and extremely durable. Our simple goal is to produce products that you will love to live with.

The art historian in us hopes that one of our now contemporary designs will come to stand as an icon of this era, always having the allure of being built from timeless and classic materials that keep on giving.
